Though non-existent in the first Transformer movie, Sideswipe has played a major role in the whole concept of the plot. If you have been watching the series, you know how outnumbered and outmatched the Autobots really are. They are much smaller in figure compared to most of the Decepticons and they only rely on cunningness and bravery for their battles. With no disrespect to the other Autobots like Bumble Bee and Ironhide, Sideswipe, even in a diminutive role, has truly thrived in the whole idea. Even Optimus Prime will sing praises for Sideswipe if he ever had the chance!

Toy companies have undoubtedly cashed in on the Transformers craze long before the movie ever went out. But one thing that you will see from the past designs of the Sideswipe character is that it was very blocky and rigid. Thanks to the movie though and 21st century technology, the new versions of the Transformers have more fluid forms. And in this case, nothing can be more fluid than the Sideswipe action figure.
Look at the specifics. Since the last movie came out, this version of Sideswipe will be that of the Dark of the Moon one. The one thing that is significantly identifiable has to be the Cybertanium blades on both hands. Classified as a warrior, there is no doubt that Sideswipe was built for battle. But in a way, he is not as top-heavy as Ironhide or Optimus Prime. He is in the smaller class; slimmer and a lot more agile in form. That is why aside from the usual projectile cannon, the Transformers Sideswipe likes to do most of his battles on close range. So in a way, the blades are pivotal. He excels in this kind of battle, as Sideswipe is known to be a master of the ancient art of Cybertronian swordplay.
Sideswipe transforms from a battle ready robot warrior to a Corvette Stingray. Unlike in past models wherein the Transformers were merely public vehicles, the new versions have now been retrofitted to have large projectile cannons attached to them even as they turn into cars. And whats absolutely so great when it comes to the Transformers Sideswipe model is the transformation. Unlike other Transformers, it can take a long time for the actual robots to transform into cars. Sideswipe on the other hand, has a fast transformation process. This may be due to the fact that he does transform into something small like a Corvette Stingray and now a truck or a pickup. Either way, expect your child to quickly fall for Sideswipe.
A Bit of Setback for the Transformers Sideswipe Model
Though one cannot avoid the fact that sleek sports cars transforming into robot warriors are a very cool thing to play with, your kids may have to face the fact that the Sideswipe model is based on a miniature robot class. Sideswipe is barely bigger than Ironhide and is only around the waist of Optimus. Also, theres the fact that youre buying a solo bot. This means that if your kids actually want to get into the whole Transformer experience, there has to be more. In this case, you may need more robots to fight against or become allies with. Another thing that you need to think about is that Sideswipe has some parts that are too thin and can be easily detached. This could prove damaging in the end when you see one of his blades chopped off. So it is better that you have a good place to put it in when your kids are not playing with it.
Either way, one cannot deny the fact that the Transformers Sideswipe model is still one of the cooler-looking ones in the line.
